Bee Health 2020 LATAM approaches bee health management with the preventive vision of “one health”.
The objective is to provide tools to identify and control the health risk in the production process. With this we seek to achieve the quality, safety and traceability demanded by the food market today.
The initiative aims at knowing and recognizing the multifactorial origin of the loss of beekeeping health. And, through training for beekeepers, improve practices throughout the production chain, reconciling productive and environmental interests.
What are we doing?
We are creating a collaboration network between researchers, beekeepers and farmers in Latin America, with the purpose of sharing experiences and generating new knowledge about beekeeping.
From what we collect in the field, we develop a work program with solid scientific bases to install good practices in beehive management and in the prevention and control of diseases that affect species in modern and intensive production systems.
We identify factors that affect the health and productivity of honeybee populations in Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Costa Rica.
Through strategies that include monitoring, training and network development, we seek to contribute to greater competitiveness and sustainability of beekeeping.
